American Heritage University’s Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree is a higher doctorate and one of the University's most prestigious qualifications.
The program is designed to provide doctoral candidates with the skills necessary to complete high-level research in law. The AHU School of Law encourages applications from suitably qualified applications of all nationalities. Proposals for doctoral research on any legal topic will be considered.
Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree is awarded only to individuals who have published original contributions of special excellence in the history, philosophy, exposition or criticism of law.
Program Objectives As the highest academic award in law, the LL.D. is designed to give formal public recognition to legal scholars who have made outstanding contributions to legal science.
School of Law and Public Policy The School of Law and Public Policy blends professional training in both legal substance and methods with value-based and theoretical inquiry. The program draws deeply on America’s ethical and historical roots. Lawyers participate in policymaking by advocating particular positions, drafting legislations, regulations, negotiating compromises, and challenging existing laws etc. The school aspires to train leaders with competence and insights, able to digest and articulate complex legal and public policy materials in order to shape and apply public policy in a free society. Policymakers also draw on an understanding of economics, policy content and process and research methodology. The school anchors students in a comprehensive understanding of public and private law while developing the related analytic skills of political economies as well as the managerial skills of organizational development and strategy.

Mission Statement of the Law Program
The primary objective is to educate men and women for membership in the legal profession. The School of Law provides its students the intellectual and practical training necessary for the practice of law and instills in them an appreciation of the human qualities necessary for the practice of law to be a satisfying and worthwhile career.
LL.D. Program Phase
American Heritage University’s Doctor of Law program is conducted in five phases.
Phase 1: Develop a program rationale; and outline a comparative analysis of similar doctoral programs at other universities.
Phase 2: Develop study plan with your faculty advisor and complete a subject area report.
Phase 3: Submit your doctoral dissertation proposal for approval by your faculty advisor.
Phase 4: Research and write the Dissertation.
Phase 5: Graduation.
Admission requirements: A person may be admitted as a candidate for the degree if the LL.D. Admission Committee so decides and the person holds — (a) an LLB or JD with not less than 8 years standing; or (b) a Master of Laws with not less than 3 years standing.
Requirements for completion In order to complete the LL.D., candidates must submit a doctoral dissertation of between 100-300 pages within three years of enrolling on the program.
Subject areas The thesis may be on any legal subject approved by the LL.D. Faculty Committee.
Duration of program All doctoral candidates are required to submit the final version of their doctoral dissertation by the end of August of the third year after enrolling on the LL.D. program.
